The Test of Obedience
Hello church family,
Well last Sunday didn't go as I'd originally planned. God showed up.
Let's try it again!
This Sunday coming we continue our sermon series through 1 John, That You May Know: Walking in the Light as True Disciples of Jesus Christ.
The message this week is titled The Test of Obedience, based on 1 John 2:3–11.
John writes with striking clarity: “We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.” That statement can sound unsettling at first, especially if we forget what John has already told us. John is not teaching that obedience saves us. He has already pointed us to Jesus Christ, the righteous Advocate, whose blood cleanses us from sin.
But John is teaching that genuine faith bears fruit. A person cannot truly know Christ and remain content in darkness. A person cannot claim fellowship with God while rejecting the commands of God. A person cannot say they are walking in the light while refusing love.
This Sunday we will look at the difference between obedience as the fruit of salvation and obedience as an attempt to earn salvation. We will also consider what it means to walk as Jesus walked, and why love for one another is one of the clearest signs that the light of Christ is truly at work in us.
This is not a message meant to crush sincere believers. It is a message meant to bring us into honest light. Christ does not expose sin in order to destroy His people, but to forgive, cleanse, restore, and teach us to walk in His way.
Please join us in the basement from 09h30-0945 for a time of prayer and fellowship.
