Do Not Love The World

Good afternoon, church family,

This Sunday, September 13, we continue our series, That You May Know: Walking in the Light as True Disciples of Jesus Christ. In week four, our message is “Do Not Love the World,” based on 1 John 2:15-17.

John's command can sound puzzling until we understand what he means by “the world.” He is not telling us to despise God's creation or withdraw from the people God loves. He is warning us against a way of life organized apart from God - a life driven by appetite, comparison, possession, approval, and pride.

Together we will consider the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, and ask a searching question: What has begun to hold the place in our hearts that belongs to Christ alone? The good news is that Jesus does more than expose our disordered loves. He forgives us, frees us, and teaches us to receive God's gifts with gratitude and open hands. Please join Corinne and me in the church basement at 9:30 for a time of prayer and reflection. We look forward to worshipping with you as we hear God's Word and set our hearts again upon the life that does not pass away.

Grace and peace,

Christian & Corinne
